Sur l’Atelier | About the Workshop

Everyone has innate rhythms, sounds, and voices which await to be expressed. Making original instruments is a creative artistic process to give life to our musicality rooted in our own culture. This project provides a platform that encourages participants to explore the sounds and music inside/around them, reconnect with their cultural uniqueness in music/art through individual musical instrument-making, and build solidarity across differences through collective music- making.

About the artist:

Asako is a classically trained organist, pianist, qanoon-player, music/art facilitator and origami-artist. Born in Japan and having resided in Italy, Egypt, and India, she is specialized in Italian organ/Christian-music, Middle Eastern classical/popular music, and South-Asian/Japanese folk/popular music and arts. Her passion is to explore diverse cultural expressions and cross-cultural experiences across music and arts. Through her musical instrument-making project, she is cultivating the potential of multimodal individual/collaborative expression which invites people to reconnect with their cultural uniqueness and inclusiveness.
